[special announcement from me and my event co-chair]

Would you like to taste 50 CAKES in one evening?

Can you even eat that much cake? Come find out!

Cake-Off4Kids 2011
Saturday, September 17th, 7-8:30pm
The Domain Hotel, Sunnyvale

Cake-Off4Kids 2011 is the first (annual) amateur baking contest to benefit Cake4Kids. The competition is open to Cake4Kids bakers and the general public. Professional bakers may not enter; however, culinary students are allowed. There is a maximum of 50 cake entries in the following 5 categories (up to, but no more than, 10 cakes per category):

  • Ultimate Chocolate
  • Best Decorated
  • Best Tasting
  • Gluten Free (all ingredients must be gluten free)
  • Kids (bakers must be 15 years or younger)

Our celebrity judges will assess the entries and award a GRAND prize in each category. In general, cakes will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Flavor (aroma, taste, good balance of flavorings)
  • Texture (moist and tender crumb, not soggy or dry)
  • Inside characteristics (even grain, evenly baked)
  • Outside characteristics (consistent shape/size/surface, overall appeal)
  • Frosting (taste, texture, even color and application)

The BEST DECORATED category will be judged first on appearance (design, decorations, color, techniques), then by the characteristics noted above.

Only 150 “tasting” tickets will be sold to the public. Ticket prices are $15 for ages 16+, $5 for children 4-15, FREE for 3 and under (Parents MUST keep children with them at all times). Bakers pay a $15 cake entry fee which includes admission to the event; there is a limit of one cake submission per baker.

Attendees will receive a re-usable plate and fork to taste ANY cake in the competition (as many as time allows). After official tasting by the judges, attendees will be able to present their plate to any baker and taste a small portion of cake (about a large spoonful’s worth). Cake tasting is on a first-come, first-served basis until a cake is finished. Cake details (cake flavor, frosting flavor, ingredients) will be posted for those who may have food allergies or sensitivities.

Tickets are available at: http://cake4kids.org/CakeOff_2.html

Payments will be accepted online (via PayPal) or by mail using printable forms available on the Cake4Kids website. Entries and tickets will be processed on a first-come, first served basis.

This event is expected to sell out quickly; don’t delay in submitting your cake entry and ticket purchase forms!

If you are unable to attend, you may support the Cake-Off4Kids event by making a donation to Cake4Kids using the ticket order form.

We are deeply indebted to our major sponsor, The Domain Hotel, for providing an amazing space for our event (including tables, linens, hot beverages and A/V setup). If you haven’t stopped by The Domain Hotel yet, you are in for a visual treat!

Hope to see you there!
