hello lunch.

hello lunch.

Seriously yummy lunch today courtesy of my hero, Jamie Oliver. If you haven’t yet seen his “Food Revolution” show on ABC, I hope you will take my advice to see it with your family. I’m not much of a TV person, but this show speaks directly to my heart. It also makes me feel I’m on the right track with ‘dirt&sunshine’.

I’ve watched all three episodes with my sons and their reactions move me to tears. They are pulling for Jamie to succeed and wish wholeheartedly that he would come to their schools(!). Even though we live in California, land of fresh fruits and vegetables, you should see what they serve in school cafeterias. I used to go in to borrow pans and such when I taught kindergarten cooking in each of my children’s classes. I still remember the heavy smell of processed food even though it’s been years since I’ve been back in the school kitchen. My sons have never eaten a school lunch; it’s that much of a turn off to them.

I hope you will heed Jamie’s call to action and sign his petition (http://www.jamieoliver.com/campaigns/jamies-food-revolution/petition). It is doing well in California but we all need to spread the word!

And if you’re interested in the recipe for the Creamy Asparagus Soup (below), it can be found here: http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetarian-recipes/creamy-asparagus-soup-with-a-poached-egg.

Enjoy!
