sangria 2010: the music
Sangria 2010 was a personal best in terms of music. Honestly, I don’t know where to go from here because we may have peaked, live-music-wise. For the past two years, we’ve had a mariachi trio plus one (paid for a trio, got an extra man). They were lovely, but we were ready to rock the house in celebration of 12 years of sangria/tapas.
We hired a terrific band, D!SR, and enjoyed a private 45-minute concert on the lawn. Despite being high-school age, these EIGHT guys are serious musicians (as an aside, I used to lead a fine arts/music group with two of the guys’ mom). And not only did they cover one of my favorite songs, “Sell Out’ (by Reel Big Fish), they played it TWICE! Normally, I am running around making last minute tapas and refilling drinks – not this year! Judy loaned me a bunch of Fermob bistro tables and chairs from Emily Joubert Home & Garden and I parked myself at the frontmost table for the entire show. Incredible!
Lastly, although this may not mean much to anyone else, I felt truly hip when a bunch of high-school classmates of the band crashed the party. I was really flattered and, of course, we let them stay.
P.S. I was serious when I said we didn’t take any photos. Thankfully, our friend, Peter, took some artsy images with his cell phone (the band, and me with our sweet neighbor, Robert).

Oh this sounds fabulous… A friend made me white peach and red wine sangria for my birthday get together which coincidentally was on August 1. Delicious never had white peach sangria… she did it with mango yummy.
Happy Birthday, Gayle! I will definitely try the mango in the white peach sangria. I usually add extra peach juice or puree but mango would be terrific. I’m providing sangria and tapas later this month to fulfill an auction donation commitment, might just try it then. Thanks for the tip!
